Carbon footprint assessment tool for universities: CO2UNV

Universities, as organisations engaged in education, research and community services, play an important role promoting sustainability should be example of a sustainable organisation. The Carbon Footprint (CF) is very useful decision-making tool that allows to measure communicate the effect their activities on environment. To do so, it necessary have tools capable calculating, tracking reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, well guiding actions for reducing offsetting them. aim this article present specifically designed calculate carbon footprint universities, called CO2UNV. This able quantify CO2 equivalent (CO2e) emissions scopes 1 (direct GHG emissions), 2 (electricity indirect emissions) 3 (other university whole different buildings/units made up of. It includes, by default, typical emission sources education centre corresponding factors. However, totally adaptable any other type organisation thanks possibility including new updating all factors (by default new). also evaluating evolution CF over time, CO2e offsets achieved contributing offset projects. results report includes input data graphical representation results. Finally, CO2UNV applied Universitat Jaume I (Spain), study concludes with its validation according applicability accuracy criteria.
